On Christmas Eve there will be carols and prosecco. After dinner Midnight Mass at the church in St Just-in-Roseland. On return hot cocoa is served before bed. During the night, elves visit each door with stockings for all.
On Christmas Day, a roaring fire welcomes guests. Our cinema shows the Queen’s speech while the sitting room table groans under the weight of cheese, mince pies and panettone. We usually receive a visit by the real Father Christmas.

THE BEST UK HOTELS FOR CHRISTMAS
Condé Nast Traveller
Hotel Tresanton, St Mawes
The prospect of Midnight Mass at St Just in Roseland – a 13th-century church in semi-tropical gardens that Betjeman described as the ‘most beautiful churchyard on earth’ – would be reason enough to spend Christmas in nearby St Mawes. Another is Olga Polizzi’s gracious and grown-up, yet very family-friendly 30-room Hotel Tresanton, on the edge of Cornwall’s south coast. Mass is preceded by carols and followed by stockings for all, the Queen speaks on a big screen in the cinema, and on Boxing Day you can walk along the Carrick Roads – the estuary of the River Fal – by way of a castle built by Henry VIII.
